Lighthouse: a Community of Practice by ECDC
Shining a Light on Social Sciences and Disease Prevention
Not a member? Read before signing up
The ECDC Lighthouse is an online collaboration space where professionals working in the prevention of infectious diseases come together, driven by the shared goal of integrating social and behavioural sciences in their public health work. Here, you'll find resources to increase your knowledge and opportunities to learn, connect and collaborate.
Who can join?
The ECDC Lighthouse welcomes people who are interested, experienced, or currently involved in the prevention of infectious diseases through use of social and behavioural sciences, and who work for or are affiliated with organisations and institutions in the EU/EEA. These could include public health authorities, universities and research institutions, civil society and community-based organisations, among others. Exceptions apply to people from outside the EU/EEA or individuals that have commercial interests in the field of ECDC’s mandate.
2 step verification
Joining the Lighthouse Community of Practice involves a two-step process, and the most important part is filling in your profile fully.
Step 1: Create your account and complete your profile
You’ll be asked to provide mandatory information like your name, organisation, role, nationality and country of work. This information helps us confirm that members are a good fit for the community. Incomplete profiles will not be verified, so please make sure all fields are filled in.
Step 2: Profile verification
Once your profile is complete, our team will review it to ensure you meet the membership criteria:
- You're from, based in or affiliated with an EU/EEA country;
- You’re not working in a commercial organisation in the field of ECDC’s mandate (public health and infectious diseases);
- Ideally, you’re working or have an interest in public health, social and behavioural science, or a related field;
Verification usually takes 2–3 working days, and you’ll receive an email once it’s completed.
Seeing “Access Denied”? Don’t worry!
During this review period, you might see an “Access Denied” message when trying to use the platform. This is normal and not a technical issue — it just means your profile is awaiting verification. Once approved, you’ll have full access.
